Spiderholster Give-away | For Photographers

Last year when I took a workshop of South-African Weddingphotographer Christine Meintjes she showed us her Spiderholster. Simply said, a Spiderholster is attached to a Spiderbelt designed to carry your camera(DSLR). The first thing I did after the workshop is order one and I haven't regretted it for one second as it changed the way I shoot. You probably still have no idea what I am talking about so I am showing you a couple of photo's and a video(from their website) so you get it ;)

Slide1
Slide2

I have had severe backproblems for 13 years now and this was one of the reasons why I didn't wanted to get into weddingphotography as I knew that it would be killing for my neck and back. After buying the Single Camera System from Spiderholster I knew I was able to do weddings as well and I have without having any neck or backproblems :)

I also love to use it during my other session but especially for my newborn sessions it has become a gift. With newborn sessions you have to position the baby and then quickly take the photo. Well if you have a camerastrap or a sling with your camera attached to it, it can become a dangerous situation as it could easily hit the baby when you get the baby in the position you want him to be in. So normally I would put my camera aside, put the baby in the right position and then had to grab my camera quickly as they do not always stay in position for a long time. I have stumbled, fell on my camera more then one time doing this as I forgot where I put it. Now working with the Spiderbelt around my waist I can easily adjust the position and within seconds have my camera in my hand to snap the shot. PERFECT!

For weddings I have the Dual Camera System as I always work with two camera's on weddings. I always have one ready with a long lens on it and one with a short lens. I have my hands free to adjust the weddingdress or things like that during the shoot and it is just making everything so much easier.

And since I am now a Spider Ambassador I am able to do a few Spiderholster give-aways this year starting today with giving away one Single Camera System!

What you have to do to be able to win this awesome belt is:
Leave a comment on this post.

On Friday I will randomly choose a winner. If you do not want to take your changes and want to order one right away I have a 35 dollar discountcode for you that you can use :)

Marcia and Dirk | Wedding Photography

Last January my wedding website launched and because of this I gave away a wedding(together with a lot of sponsors) to a couple that deserved it. It was for a couple that was already married but for some reason didn't had money the first time they married, or have gone through a difficult time while being married or just loved each other still after all those years. Any reason would do and we got a lot of response and it was pretty difficult to choose a top 5. As I knew a lot of people who entered(friends, former clients, etc) I decided not to be part of the choosing. So the jury choose the top 5 and their stories were placed on this blog and people could vote for their favorite on facebook.

It was clear from the first day of voting that Marcia and Dirk's story was pulling on people heartstrings because they got a lot of votes. After a week they were clearly the winners. I couldn't be happier as I have known Marcia and Dirk for many years and have witnessed the love they have for each other. I never saw a couple that still got butterflies in their tummy after all those years, just talking about each other. When you saw them together it was so visible for everyone to see. I told her more then once that what they had, still after all those years, was something rare. They are 17 years together and married for ten years and have had their ups and downs. A huge up was the arrival of Lieve their almost 2 year old daughter. And the huge down was that last year Marcia was diagnosed with rectal cancer. Marcia has had radiation therapy and surgery where they were able to remove all the cancer. They were so happy that they won this second wedding and they were really looking forward to it as did I.

Originally we planned on doing it on the 15th of April, but due to the bad weather we moved it up 2 weeks. In the beginning of that week it looked promising but the closer we got to the date the weather predictions were getting worse by the day. We planned on doing the whole wedding outside, food, cake and all. On Saturday I actually cried when I saw the weather report as they said it would rain all day. I wasn't crying because of the rain(well a bit too) but it meant that we had to do everything inside the location and the location is beautiful but so incredible dark inside, a photographers nightmare I must say. So on the day of the wedding the weather report said NO RAIN, Yeah! Still it was cold and we decided not to let everyone freeze and have everything inside, what could I do? I had to make the best of it right?! So after I picked up Marcia, Dirk and Lieve for the photoshoot I dropped in quickly to see how the styling-team was doing and I couldn't believe my eyes!!!! They turned that dark location into a beautiful and romantic location with a vintage look to it, it was just so beautiful. At that moment I could let my stress go and enjoy the whole day. The whole day was just perfect. The ceremony was so beautifully held by Daphne van de Boogaard and the words she spoke were touching each and everyone in that room. Tears were falling(had to hide behind my camera otherwise I was crying as well) and their were also laughs. It was just so special, just like they are. Then diner was served by Roze-Marijne who jumped in to help us last minute with the catering. And while everyone was enjoying their food Brigitte came to me and said we should do the cake outside. "Huh"? She told me the sun was shining and it was really nice weather outside. So we styled a table and a tree and when everyone was done eating we called them outside for the wedding cake, which by the way was sooooooo delicious.
And then the day came to an end and when I gave Marcia a big hug I started crying, all the stress for getting this all done right finally came out. I was so happy that everyone was so happy and that everything went beyond what I expected.

Today Marcia had her first Chemo and I know she is waiting on pins and needles on this post(and so is Dirk), so I hope you two enjoy the photos as much as I do:

Alice in Wonderland | Dream Shoot

When Jackie emailed me if I wanted to do a Dream shoot with an Alice in Wonderland theme I was dancing on my chair, yes, yes, yes!! So we both got creative with idea's on what we must bring to the shoot to make it all look the way we had in mind. And when we got together on the day of the shoot it all looked so magical :)
1
I contacted KoekieKoekie if they would like to make some "Alice kind of cookies" for me and they said "Yes". I received the best looking cookies I have ever seen(and they tasted SOOOOO good, like the best EVER!). They also included some sugar cubes that were magical as well, see below what happened when you pour tea on them:
2
"Alice" was just a dream come true:

4
Then the "white Rabbit" came along to play along with "Alice".
5
They both LOVED the cookies as well :). Then the Matt Hatter and the White Queen dropped by as well and the Party was complete:

Such a beautiful and fun family.
9
CUTE!
10
And below are maybe my ultimate favorites of this shoot(and it was hard to choose let me tell you!):
11
A final thank you to this sweet "alice" as she had to indure a bit of coldness during this shoot as the sun was only peeking through the clouds a few times and she although she was cold she did awesome!!!

I love when clients pick to do a Dream Shoot, it is my favorite thing to do. Lucky for me I get to do a few more soon, so stay tuned!! This shoot definitely goes in my top ten of best shoots ever

Catering gezocht!

Anthony - 13 years old | Personal

After a traumatic childbirth 13 years ago Anthony was laid on me all blue and not breathing. They took him away to a backroom where they gave him some oxion and all of the sudden I heard him cry, the best sound in the world at that moment. I sometimes think the way people are born can tell you something about the way they will experience life(it goes for my kids, not sure if it does for others). Anthony's birth was very hard and so has his life been up till now. Ofcourse we have had good experiences as well during these 13 years, sometimes it all went well with him for a few months, truly blessings. For the people who haven't been reading my personal blog for the past years now, Anthony has a form of Autism called PPD-NOS and also ADHD and severe Dyslexia. Due to this our lifes are like being on a rollercoaster, many big highs and many big lows, not much time to breath in between. Very tiring and a lot of people have no idea what it is to have a special needs child 24/7. Some people even say that there isn't anything wrong with him.....yeah right....those kind of comments hurt, but they just have no idea what they are talking about. He has been in 5 different schools, I have been fighting for him every single year, which is so tiring but worth every second of it when they tell you he is caught up with all his schoolwork(except spelling due to his dyslexia).

Now he is 13 years old and I am just so proud of him. He has come such a long way and I have every faith in him that it will only go up from here. He is hitting puberty and we clash often but I just love this kid so much. He is special, but special is good in my eyes. He can somtimes come off as not interested, sometimes rude which drives me crazy, but inside he is kind and caring and has his heart on the right place. Looking at these photos while editing them(I took them a few hours ago) I can see all this goodness in his soul just by looking at these photos, it just made my heart feel warm. Anthony you are almost as big as me but you will always be my little boy.

Happy Birthday!

Mamma
PS: This one is I think one of my favorites and might end up on my wall soon

Monique, Ingmar and Sofie | Lovebirds

Monique contacted me over a year ago for a shoot and finally a few weeks back we were able to capture her little family :).
The weather was just perfect and their dog Sofie was just behaving so well which made me feel bad about our own dog who is completely the opposites hahaha. Anyway, I loved doing this shoot and I loved seeing two people so relaxed and comfortable with each other, loved, loved, loved it :)

Bas - 11 days old | Newborn Photography

I just love newborns, the way they still curl up to a little ball when you hold them and the way they smell, I just love everything about them. Bas was no exception :), except he was cute as a button to top it!
